Kiddar Capital CEO Todd Hitt on Varney & Co:
"We've Got to Rebuild the American Dream"
September 22, 2017
Fox Business interviews Kiddar Capital CEO Todd Hitt on Varney & Co. about the American labor shortage, why it’s happening, and what we can do to fix it.
Houston is treading water. Multiple cities across Florida face flooding. In Puerto Rico, more than 3.4 million people are completely without power.
With multiple cities treading water in the aftermath of this year’s deadly hurricane season, hundreds of thousands of homes, commercial buildings, public buildings, roads, and bridges are in need of work.
America is left facing a tough question: who will do the rebuilding? The country is facing a severe labor shortage that left contractors and construction firms shorthanded even before the hurricanes struck.
Hitt traced the issue to public policy failures which have effectively immobilized the American workforce:
“There’s no wage growth in middle America… 18 years, and they’re making not one dollar more. So they’re stuck in middle America right now…
We need visionaries out there — really from Capitol Hill — that are laying out something like a GI bill that focuses on rebuilding middle America. Not the coasts, not the people who are already financially upwardly mobile. We’ve got to rebuild the American dream.”
